Balgowlah: bungalows growing upwards
Balgowlah's streets are lined with interwar Californian bungalows and brick semis, along with walk-up blocks from the 1950s and 1960s. Families have been extending these houses for years, often going up with a second storey because the blocks are not large. An addition upstairs changes where cable has to run, and sometimes the meter box and main board need to move to suit the new layout.
Kitchen renovations are the other driver. Many owners are swapping gas cooktops for induction, which needs a dedicated circuit of a decent size and a board with the capacity to carry it. In a bungalow still running its first board, that usually means an upgrade. Renovated rooms also get new lighting, with LED downlights through the living areas and pendants over the bench.

Typical Jobs in Balgowlah
What the work usually involves, how long it takes and what you are left with when we pack up.
Build or renovation wiring
Second storey additions and rear extensions on Balgowlah bungalows, wired from the plans with your builder.
We start from your plans and draw the lighting and power layout room by room. Cable goes in at rough-in while the frame is open, with each run photographed, and fit-off happens once the surfaces are finished. We work to the builder’s program and size the switchboard for what you plan to add later, so a late change rarely means opening walls.
- You end up with
- Every circuit and safety switch tested, with a CCEW at handover
Switchboard upgrade
Board upgrades in Balgowlah homes so an induction cooktop can run alongside the rest of the kitchen.
The board we usually replace is an older one with ceramic fuses, or with only one or two safety switches (RCDs). It comes out and a new board goes in with circuit breakers and RCD protection on the circuits. We size it with spare room for later additions like air conditioning or an EV charger. Expect the power to be off for most of the job.
- Usual time on site
- 4 to 6 hours
- You end up with
- A labelled switchboard with tested RCD protection and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)
Lighting upgrade
LED downlights and pendants for renovated Balgowlah kitchens and living rooms.
Plenty of lighting jobs start with old halogen downlights coming out in favour of LED. Others add lights to a renovated room or light a path and garden for the evenings. We agree the layout and the switching with you first, so the lights land where you need them. Then we fit them and set up dimmers in the rooms where you want softer light.
- Usual time on site
- 1 to 3 hours
- You end up with
- Working lights on the switching you asked for, with a CCEW for the installation work

“Andrew and Jake have been amazing and professional to work with. They've fixed power points and replaced light fittings at my place. I've since recommended them to both my parents and grandparents where a fuse box upgrade has been completed for my fathers place and an oven install along with lighting and ceiling fans for my grandmother. Both have had nothing but positive things to say. Would highly recommend!”

“I recently completed a major renovation on my home where we essentially rebuilt it stage by stage, eventually tripling the size of the house. Endpoint Electrical wired the entire project and were fantastic to work with from start to finish. Our build was a little unconventional compared to a standard new build, as we were living in the house the whole time. This meant the electrical work had to constantly adapt — thinking about both the present and the future, with some areas not even built yet while others were scheduled to be removed later on. Despite the challenges, the team handled everything professionally and thoughtfully. They are exceptional at what they do, very easy to communicate with, can think out of the box and all round a top blokes. I use them when ever I can and recommend to all.”

“Andy, Jake and their team were fantastic. Great communication, showed up when they said they would and with all materials there. They adapted smoothly to my atypical problems and their attention to detail was outstanding. Their work is so neat and tidy I asked them to back to tidy up a previous electrician's messy cabling. I've recommended End Point to multiple friends already and will keep coming back.”

Balgowlah Electrician FAQs
Can my Balgowlah house take an induction cooktop?
Most can, but induction cooktops draw a lot of current and need their own circuit, often 32 amps for a full-size model. We check the main switch rating and whether the board has room. If the board is old or full, an upgrade comes first. It is easier to sort this out before the new benchtop goes in.
We are adding a second storey to our Balgowlah bungalow. Does the meter box have to move?
Sometimes. If the new work covers the wall where the meter box sits, or the board ends up in the wrong place for the new layout, it may need relocating. That involves the network provider and new consumer mains, so it is worth deciding early. We look at your plans and tell you whether the board can stay put.
Where should the power points go in our new Balgowlah kitchen?
Think about where each appliance will live. Most people want double power points along each bench run and one in the island if there is one, with the dishwasher and oven on their own circuits. Outlets inside an appliance cupboard keep the bench clear. We mark it all out with you before the walls are lined.
