Home Battery Installation and Battery-Ready Switchboards

We install home batteries across northern Sydney, and we upgrade the switchboard first when it needs the space or the protection.

What a Home Battery Asks of Your Switchboard

Northern Sydney added 127 home batteries for every 1,000 houses between July 2025 and August 2026. Each one connects through the switchboard, and older boards often need work first. These are the usual reasons. We install batteries and upgrade boards under NSW licence 397311C.

  • No Spare Space

The battery inverter needs its own breaker. Boards filled by years of extensions have no room left.

  • Ceramic Fuses

Boards still on rewireable fuses are usually replaced with breakers before a battery connects.

  • Missing RCD Protection

New circuits for the battery need safety switch protection under the wiring rules.

  • A Second Inverter

Adding a battery beside existing solar often means two inverters feeding the same board.

  • Isolation and Labels

A battery is a second source of supply, so the board gets isolators and warning signs.

  • Backup Circuits

Keeping chosen circuits on in an outage usually means a separate backed-up section of the board.

  • Battery Location

AS/NZS 5139 limits where a battery can go, which sets the cable run back to the board.

  • Network Approval

Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy approves the connection before the battery is switched on.

Our Home Battery Installation Process

A battery job starts at the switchboard. Here is how we take it from first look to a working system.

Book a Battery and Switchboard Check
  1. STEP 1

Check the Board and the Site

We look over the switchboard and meter panel with your existing solar in mind, then agree where the battery can go.

  2. STEP 2

    Quote and Approvals

You get one quote covering the battery and any board work it needs. The network connection application goes in before the install.

  3. STEP 3

    Install, Test and Hand Over

We upgrade the board if it needs it, then install and commission the battery. Everything is tested before we show you the monitoring.

How the Battery Rebate Works

A short version from the official sources, checked 8 October 2026. Amounts depend on the battery's size and its install date, so we do not quote them here. Our battery research lists every rule with its source.

  1. 1

    The federal discount

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program started on 1 July 2025. It runs through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, and the department describes the discount as around 30% of the upfront cost for batteries of 5 kWh to 100 kWh connected to new or existing solar.

Sources: DCCEEW, NSW Climate and Energy Action. Checked 8 October 2026.

  2. 2

    How it reaches your quote

An eligible battery creates small-scale technology certificates (STCs). You can assign them to a registered agent in return for an upfront discount. The battery must be on the Clean Energy Council approved list and installed by an SAA accredited installer with battery endorsement.

Source: Clean Energy Regulator, Solar batteries. Checked 8 October 2026.

  3. 3

    It steps down over time

Since 1 May 2026 the number of STCs per kWh drops every six months, and support is tiered by size: full rate up to 14 kWh, then less per kWh above that. The rate on your install date is the one that counts.

Source: Clean Energy Regulator, STC factor table. Checked 8 October 2026.

  4. 4

    The NSW VPP incentive

The NSW battery installation discount is closed for homes. The NSW incentive for connecting a battery to a virtual power plant is still open with no closing date, and it can be combined with the federal discount.

Typical job

What a typical home battery install looks like

Most home batteries in northern Sydney go in beside solar panels that are already on the roof. We open the switchboard first, because an older board often needs space or RCD protection before a battery and its inverter can connect. The network application goes in before connection day. The battery is mounted where the standard allows, wired back to the board and labelled as a second source of supply.

You end up with
A tested battery system with labelled isolation at the switchboard and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)
  1. Check the switchboard and meter panel
  2. Quote the battery work and any board upgrade it needs
  3. Upgrade the board if needed, then mount and wire the battery
  4. Commission and test, then walk you through the monitoring

What Our Clients Say About End Point Electrical

“Andrew and Jake have been amazing and professional to work with. They've fixed power points and replaced light fittings at my place. I've since recommended them to both my parents and grandparents where a fuse box upgrade has been completed for my fathers place and an oven install along with lighting and ceiling fans for my grandmother. Both have had nothing but positive things to say. Would highly recommend!”

“I recently completed a major renovation on my home where we essentially rebuilt it stage by stage, eventually tripling the size of the house. Endpoint Electrical wired the entire project and were fantastic to work with from start to finish. Our build was a little unconventional compared to a standard new build, as we were living in the house the whole time. This meant the electrical work had to constantly adapt — thinking about both the present and the future, with some areas not even built yet while others were scheduled to be removed later on. Despite the challenges, the team handled everything professionally and thoughtfully. They are exceptional at what they do, very easy to communicate with, can think out of the box and all round a top blokes. I use them when ever I can and recommend to all.”

There assistance within pre construction and helping achieve the electrical budget was outstanding, and there recommendations for light fittings and value management options is what made the build come to life for me and my family! Very glad my builder recommended/uses them - and I strongly suggest you give these fella a call!”

Frequently Asked Questions About
Home Battery Installation

Do I need solar panels to get the federal battery discount?

Yes. The Clean Energy Regulator says the battery must be installed with a new or existing solar PV system to be eligible. Most homes adding a battery in northern Sydney already have panels on the roof, and the battery is connected alongside them. CER eligibility rules, checked 8 October 2026.

Will my switchboard need an upgrade before a battery goes in?

It depends on the board. If it has spare space, circuit breakers and RCD protection, the battery can often connect to it as it is. Boards with ceramic fuses, no room left or no safety switches usually need work first. We check the board before we quote, and you can read more on our switchboard upgrades page.

Can a battery be added to the solar system I already have?

Usually, yes. One option keeps your solar inverter and adds a battery with its own inverter (AC coupling). The other replaces the solar inverter with a hybrid inverter that runs both (DC coupling). Under the federal program the inverter the battery connects to must be able to join a virtual power plant, so the age and model of your inverter shape the choice.

How does the federal battery discount work?

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program runs through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. An eligible battery creates small-scale technology certificates, and you can assign them to a registered agent in return for an upfront discount. The department says you do not need to apply to it or the CER yourself. See the DCCEEW program page, checked 8 October 2026.

Will a home battery keep my power on in a blackout?

Only if the system is set up for backup. Some batteries and inverters can supply chosen circuits during an outage, which usually means moving those circuits to a backed-up section of the board. Others switch off with the grid. Tell us early if backup matters to you, because it changes the switchboard work.

Who applies to Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy?

The installer submits the connection application to your network before the battery is connected. Most of northern Sydney is on Ausgrid and much of the Hills District is on Endeavour Energy. See Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy for their processes.
