Baulkham Hills: 1970s and 1980s homes, extended over the years

Baulkham Hills grew quickly through the 1970s and 1980s, and its streets are full of brick project homes from that period, many on sloping blocks with split levels or a garage under the house. Forty years on, most have been extended or reworked. Rumpus rooms built into garages and pool equipment added in the 1990s often hang off a board that was never sized for them.

That history shows up as faults. A circuit that stops working, or lights that dim when the air conditioning kicks in, are common reasons to call, and we trace the cause before replacing anything. Smoke alarms are another regular item, since many homes of this age still rely on battery-only alarms that owners want hardwired and linked together.

Typical jobs

Typical Jobs in Baulkham Hills

What the work usually involves, how long it takes and what you are left with when we pack up.

  • Emergency callout

Dead circuits and nuisance tripping in Baulkham Hills homes, traced to the cause and made safe.

Most urgent calls start with a safety switch that will not reset, or a burning smell near a fitting or the switchboard. When you ring, we tell you how soon we can get there, which depends on where you are and how the day is booked. On site we track down the faulty circuit or appliance and make it safe. You get a quote before any repair starts.

    You end up with
Power back on wherever it is safe and the fault explained in plain terms, with a CCEW for any installation work
    More on emergency callout
  • Switchboard upgrade

Boards in Baulkham Hills homes carrying decades of additions, replaced with room for what comes next.

The board we usually replace is an older one with ceramic fuses, or with only one or two safety switches (RCDs). It comes out and a new board goes in with circuit breakers and RCD protection on the circuits. We size it with spare room for later additions like air conditioning or an EV charger. Expect the power to be off for most of the job.

    Usual time on site
    4 to 6 hours
    You end up with
A labelled switchboard with tested RCD protection and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)
    More on switchboard upgrade
  • Air conditioning circuit

Dedicated circuits for split systems in converted Baulkham Hills garages and rumpus rooms.

Most heating and cooling work starts at the switchboard. A split system or ducted unit needs its own circuit and an isolator at the outdoor unit, sized for what the system draws, and older boards often need upgrading first. We wire for brands such as Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric. Electric underfloor heating in bathrooms is another regular job.

    You end up with
A dedicated, tested circuit for the system and a CCEW
    More on air conditioning circuit

“Andrew and Jake have been amazing and professional to work with. They've fixed power points and replaced light fittings at my place. I've since recommended them to both my parents and grandparents where a fuse box upgrade has been completed for my fathers place and an oven install along with lighting and ceiling fans for my grandmother. Both have had nothing but positive things to say. Would highly recommend!”

“I recently completed a major renovation on my home where we essentially rebuilt it stage by stage, eventually tripling the size of the house. Endpoint Electrical wired the entire project and were fantastic to work with from start to finish. Our build was a little unconventional compared to a standard new build, as we were living in the house the whole time. This meant the electrical work had to constantly adapt — thinking about both the present and the future, with some areas not even built yet while others were scheduled to be removed later on. Despite the challenges, the team handled everything professionally and thoughtfully. They are exceptional at what they do, very easy to communicate with, can think out of the box and all round a top blokes. I use them when ever I can and recommend to all.”

“Andy, Jake and their team were fantastic. Great communication, showed up when they said they would and with all materials there. They adapted smoothly to my atypical problems and their attention to detail was outstanding. Their work is so neat and tidy I asked them to back to tidy up a previous electrician's messy cabling. I've recommended End Point to multiple friends already and will keep coming back.”

Baulkham Hills Electrician FAQs

Should the smoke alarms in my Baulkham Hills home be hardwired?

NSW requires working smoke alarms on every level of a home, and battery-only alarms can meet that rule. Hardwired alarms with a battery backup do not depend on someone changing batteries, and interconnected alarms sound together, so an alarm on one level is heard on the others. New homes and major renovations need hardwired alarms, and we can fit them to most existing homes.

Can you add power points and lights to a converted garage in Baulkham Hills?

Yes. A garage turned into a rumpus room or home office usually needs more power points and better lighting than a garage ever had. We check whether the existing garage circuit can be extended or whether new circuits should run from the board. If the board is full, we explain the upgrade options before starting.

Why do the lights dim when the air conditioner starts in my Baulkham Hills house?

A brief dip as a large motor starts can be normal, but steady dimming or flicker points to something worth checking. Often the air conditioner shares a circuit with the lights, or a connection at the board has worked loose. We test the circuits and the connections at the board, then tell you what we find and what it will take to fix.
