Epping: station towers and older cottage streets

The blocks around Epping station have filled with apartment towers over the past decade or so. Inside the units the boards are modern, so most electrical requests come through the owners corporation instead. Lobby and car park lights burn all night, and intercom panels at the entry wear out with constant use. Swapping common-area lights to LED on sensors is a typical strata job here.

Walk a few streets out and Epping turns back into houses. There are Federation and inter-war cottages, several in heritage conservation areas, and solid post-war brick homes on decent blocks. Many of those still carry an early switchboard with only partial RCD cover. Owners tend to replace it when they renovate the kitchen or add a rear extension, since the new circuits need protection anyway.

Typical jobs

Typical Jobs in Epping

What the work usually involves, how long it takes and what you are left with when we pack up.

  • Lighting upgrade

Common-area lighting for Epping strata buildings, often moved to LED on motion sensors in car parks and stairs.

Plenty of lighting jobs start with old halogen downlights coming out in favour of LED. Others add lights to a renovated room or light a path and garden for the evenings. We agree the layout and the switching with you first, so the lights land where you need them. Then we fit them and set up dimmers in the rooms where you want softer light.

    Usual time on site
    1 to 3 hours
    You end up with
Working lights on the switching you asked for, with a CCEW for the installation work
    More on lighting upgrade
  • Security camera install

Video intercoms and entry cameras for Epping apartment buildings, arranged through the building manager.

A typical home job is a set of cameras covering the entry points and the driveway, recording to a unit inside the house, with the feeds on your phone. Some homes add a video intercom at the front door or gate. We plan the camera positions with you, then run the cable through the roof space and walls so nothing is left exposed outside.

    You end up with
Cameras showing on your phone, plus a walkthrough of the recorder and the app
    More on security camera install
  • Switchboard upgrade

Early boards with partial RCD cover in Epping cottages and brick homes, replaced ahead of a kitchen or extension.

The board we usually replace is an older one with ceramic fuses, or with only one or two safety switches (RCDs). It comes out and a new board goes in with circuit breakers and RCD protection on the circuits. We size it with spare room for later additions like air conditioning or an EV charger. Expect the power to be off for most of the job.

    Usual time on site
    4 to 6 hours
    You end up with
A labelled switchboard with tested RCD protection and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)
    More on switchboard upgrade

“I can highly recommend End Point Electrical. They have provided exemplary service to me, undertaking electrical and network wiring work at both my previous townhouse and my current apartment. “Andrew and Jake have been amazing and professional to work with. They've fixed power points and replaced light fittings at my place. I've since recommended them to both my parents and grandparents where a fuse box upgrade has been completed for my fathers place and an oven install along with lighting and ceiling fans for my grandmother. Both have had nothing but positive things to say. Would highly recommend!”

“I recently completed a major renovation on my home where we essentially rebuilt it stage by stage, eventually tripling the size of the house. Endpoint Electrical wired the entire project and were fantastic to work with from start to finish. Our build was a little unconventional compared to a standard new build, as we were living in the house the whole time. This meant the electrical work had to constantly adapt — thinking about both the present and the future, with some areas not even built yet while others were scheduled to be removed later on. Despite the challenges, the team handled everything professionally and thoughtfully. They are exceptional at what they do, very easy to communicate with, can think out of the box and all round a top blokes. I use them when ever I can and recommend to all.”

“Andy, Jake and their team were fantastic. Great communication, showed up when they said they would and with all materials there. They adapted smoothly to my atypical problems and their attention to detail was outstanding. Their work is so neat and tidy I asked them to back to tidy up a previous electrician's messy cabling. I've recommended End Point to multiple friends already and will keep coming back.”

Epping Electrician FAQs

Do you take on strata work in Epping apartment buildings?

Yes. We work for owners corporations and their strata managers on common-area jobs such as car park lighting and intercom repairs. Quotes go to the strata manager for approval. We arrange access with the building manager, so residents get notice of any time the power to shared areas has to be off.

Can the lights in our Epping car park run on sensors?

Usually they can. Car park and stairwell lights that run all night are a common cost for a strata scheme. LED fittings with motion sensors cut the running hours, though emergency and exit lights stay as they are and keep their own testing schedule. We look at the existing circuits and suggest which areas suit sensors.

Our Epping cottage is in a heritage conservation area. Can we still upgrade the switchboard?

In most cases, yes. The board and meter box can usually be replaced without changing how the front of the house looks, and the wiring work happens inside. If the meter box is on the facade we keep the new enclosure discreet. A board replacement takes 4 to 6 hours and ends with a CCEW.
