Gordon: heritage streets and apartments along the highway
Gordon's older streets hold many interwar and Federation houses, many inside heritage conservation areas, with high plaster ceilings and decorative ceiling roses. Owners usually want to keep that character while getting rid of tired fittings. LED lamps can flicker or buzz on older dimmers, so a lighting job here often includes new dimmers matched to the lamps. Where a pendant hangs from an original rose, we work around the plaster with care.
Along the Pacific Highway and near the station, apartment buildings from the last twenty years have changed the mix. These units have modern boards and plenty of power points, but the walls are often concrete or block, which makes hiding TV cables harder. A recessed wall box behind the screen or a slim bulkhead usually does the job. Back in the older houses, boards that protect only a circuit or two with a safety switch are due for replacement.
Typical jobs
Typical Jobs in Gordon
What the work usually involves, how long it takes and what you are left with when we pack up.
Lighting upgrade
LED fittings and matched dimmers for Gordon interwar homes, keeping the original ceiling roses in place.
Plenty of lighting jobs start with old halogen downlights coming out in favour of LED. Others add lights to a renovated room or light a path and garden for the evenings. We agree the layout and the switching with you first, so the lights land where you need them. Then we fit them and set up dimmers in the rooms where you want softer light.
- Usual time on site
- 1 to 3 hours
- You end up with
- Working lights on the switching you asked for, with a CCEW for the installation work
TV and audio install
TV walls in Gordon apartments with power and HDMI hidden behind the screen, even where the wall is masonry.
Most AV jobs are a TV on the wall with the cables hidden, often with a soundbar or in-ceiling speakers alongside. For whole-home audio we install Sonos or Sonance speakers room by room. Power and data go in behind the screen so nothing hangs down the wall. Before we leave, we tune the antenna or speaker settings and show you the controls.
- You end up with
- A mounted, working setup with no loose cables on show
Switchboard upgrade
Boards in older Gordon houses where only one or two circuits have a safety switch, replaced with RCDs throughout.
The board we usually replace is an older one with ceramic fuses, or with only one or two safety switches (RCDs). It comes out and a new board goes in with circuit breakers and RCD protection on the circuits. We size it with spare room for later additions like air conditioning or an EV charger. Expect the power to be off for most of the job.
- Usual time on site
- 4 to 6 hours
- You end up with
- A labelled switchboard with tested RCD protection and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)

“Andrew and Jake have been amazing and professional to work with. They've fixed power points and replaced light fittings at my place. I've since recommended them to both my parents and grandparents where a fuse box upgrade has been completed for my fathers place and an oven install along with lighting and ceiling fans for my grandmother. Both have had nothing but positive things to say. Would highly recommend!”

“I recently completed a major renovation on my home where we essentially rebuilt it stage by stage, eventually tripling the size of the house. Endpoint Electrical wired the entire project and were fantastic to work with from start to finish. Our build was a little unconventional compared to a standard new build, as we were living in the house the whole time. This meant the electrical work had to constantly adapt — thinking about both the present and the future, with some areas not even built yet while others were scheduled to be removed later on. Despite the challenges, the team handled everything professionally and thoughtfully. They are exceptional at what they do, very easy to communicate with, can think out of the box and all round a top blokes. I use them when ever I can and recommend to all.”

“I can highly recommend End Point Electrical. They have provided exemplary service to me, undertaking electrical and network wiring work at both my previous townhouse and my current apartment. They are so good that I have signed them up as the preferred supplier to our building, of which I am the strata committee chair.”

“Andy, Jake and their team were fantastic. Great communication, showed up when they said they would and with all materials there. They adapted smoothly to my atypical problems and their attention to detail was outstanding. Their work is so neat and tidy I asked them to back to tidy up a previous electrician's messy cabling. I've recommended End Point to multiple friends already and will keep coming back.”

Gordon Electrician FAQs
Why do my new LED lights flicker in my Gordon house?
Most often the dimmer was made for old incandescent or halogen globes and does not suit the low load of LEDs. A loose connection or a mismatched driver can also cause it. We check the dimmer and lamp pairing first and replace the dimmer with a compatible LED model where needed. Most lighting jobs take 1 to 3 hours.
Can you hide the TV cables in a concrete wall in my Gordon apartment?
Often, though cutting into a concrete or block wall may need strata approval, since it can be common property. Where that is not possible, a shallow bulkhead or a slim cable channel painted to match the wall keeps things tidy. We look at the wall and check the building rules before suggesting a method.
Can we keep the original ceiling roses in our Gordon home?
Yes, in most cases. We can hang a new pendant or fit a batten holder through the existing rose, taking care with the old plaster around it. If the wiring above the rose is old rubber-insulated cable, we replace that section while we are in the ceiling. Tell us which fittings matter to you and we plan around them.
